Mop up efforts continued today on a fire that burned 14 acres of young trees and brush near Loon Lake over the holiday weekend.
Coos Forest Protective Association fire crews spent an extended 4th of July building trail and dousing flames in steep, rugged terrain to contain the Camp Creek Fire about one mile northwest of Loon Lake.
Fire crews responded to a report of smoke in the area at about 5:00 p.m. Saturday. Steep, rocky bluffs slowed access and suppression efforts. The fire was contained to a size of 14 acres 12 hours later at 5:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Crews from CFPA and Douglas Forest Protective Association will continue mopping up hot spots throughout the day today. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fire officials are reporting abnormally dry conditions and residents are encouraged to exercise extreme caution when recreating or working outdoors.
