FIRE BURNS SHOP AND FIVE ACRES
Fire crews found a shop fully engulfed in flames and two acres of grass burning late Tuesday afternoon in the Gaylord area four miles north of Powers. Firefighters from the Coos Forest Protective Association, Powers and Myrtle Point fire departments and U.S. Forest Service personnel from the Powers Ranger District responded to the fire at about 4:30 p.m. and had the blaze out shortly after 5:30 p.m. One other structure, a residence, was threatened before the fire’s spread was stopped at about five acres. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fire suppression resources on scene included 27 firefighters, eight engines, a fixed wing reconnaissance airplane and a helicopter.
